PLEASE NOTE: I will no longer be altering the variation codes. All new discoveries will be inserted in to their correct place in the timeline and given a suffix.
So a new variation that would be nearest to variation 4 would become the new 4a, etc.

Moko Lesney Matchbox 33c Lamborghini miura

The Lamborghini miura joined the Matchbox 1-75 series in mid 1968. Initially it was painted yellow and it had clear windows and a red plastic interior but one short run issued late in its life was fitted with a white plastic interior.
It had a silver plated baseplate and the first issues had a tow guide cast in but it was soon removed and all later issues did not have the tow guide.
Lesney included a highly detailed engine which can be seen inside the rear window, Later issues had the engine removed and a frosted plastic window was fitted to hide the fact that it no longer had an engine.
The wheel hubs were 6mm chromed plastic fitted with 11.5 x 45 black plastic tyres on dome head axles with rounded ends.
The grille detail was cast in as part of the silver plated baseplate so silver trim was not needed.
When the model was converted to superfast wheels some of the gold painted bodies with white interiors were fitted to regular wheel bases and recently some of the gold bodied regular wheel issue have been found fitted with red plastic interiors,
The miura also featured Lesneys 'autosteer' system where the front wheels can be turned by pressing down on the side that you want to steer towards.

There are two known casting variations, Firstly was the previously mentioned removal of the tow guide from the early issues, Then the last of the yellow miuras and all of the gold ones had two blocks cast under the rear wheel arches just above the rear wheels. Exactly what the blocks were for is anyones guess but my theory is they were added to reduce the amount of wheel travel so when the car got trod on the axles on the superfast issues did not bend.
At the moment there are ten variations listed in the variation guide but there are undoubtedly more unknown variations waiting to be added to the list.
The miura was converted to superfast wheels towards the end of 1969 and was not deleted until 1973, It was briefly reintroduced for the superfast Japanese issue in the late 70s,
It was packaged in 'E' and 'F' type boxes, the 'F' type box can be found with or without "autosteer" printed on them.

above: oops, the miura on the right has the interior facing the wrong way!
